WELLINGTON SEEKS INPUT ON TOWN CENTER PROJECT

After gathering resident comments from the December 17th input meeting,
a second round of discussions is next on the agenda

The current Town Center project is comprised of improvements being considered for the property located at Forest Hill Boulevard and Ken Adams Way.  Throughout the last few years, the Village has discussed various property improvements ranging from infrastructure and public facilities, programs and associated site requirements, to mixed-use facilities coordinated with adjacent property owners.  These components and others, together with existing improvements, will be considered through a public input process and ultimately used in developing and Town center master plan with phased improvements over the next 10 years.

Wellington’s Council and staff are seeking feedback from Wellington residents, business owners, key stakeholders, and the general public on what they would like to see Town Center look like in the future. Still in the planning stages, this multi-phase project will serve to enhance the Wellington waterfront when completed, and will create a more modern and cohesive Town Center gathering place.

TOWN CENTER BACKGROUND & HISTORY

In 1995, the Village of Wellington became the County’s 37th municipality, through incorporation. Shortly thereafter, Village founders recognized the need for a place of gathering. As the Village evaluated various potential locations for a gathering, the existence of the original Wellington Country Club and Pool was a key element in selecting what is known today as Town Center.

Beginning in 2009, with the “Boulevarding” of Forest Hill and the re-building of the community pool, the Village set in motion construction Town Center, as our gathering destination.

In 2010, the amphitheater and Scott’s Place barrier-free playground were constructed. In late 2013, the Village purchased the Lake Wellington Professional Center, which added property and lakefront footage to the Town Center.  This was followed by the completion of the Tennis and the Community Centers in 2015.

This evolution in private and public investment has created what we known today as Town Center.

WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU

As part of the input gathering and planning process goals, the Village is gaining insight into resident priorities for Town Center. As we look to Wellington’s future, we are asking the community to envision the next 10 years. What would improve the uses within Town Center? What would provide value to our community? How can we, the Village, improve the Town Center for the next generation? With these question is in mind, we are requesting your input as our public, to expand and enhance this place of public gathering.

So please join the conversation and participate in our upcoming input meeting.
