Drawing for the Young Artist

Ages 6 to 12

This course is designed for elementary aged students! Each class will incorporate a fun assignment with a new drawing medium explored each week.

Come explore your creative side though this upbeat, fun introduction to the wonderful medium of mosaics! Each class will focus on a form of mosaic, to design, create, and bring home with you. Participants will have a variety of colorful materials to use for their piece(s). At least one mosaic article will be produced per session. Class materials provided.

Nature Through Your Lens – Ages 16+

Improve your photography skills and gain knowledge of your surrounding environment through your lens! In this course, you will discover the abilities and functions of your equipment, including discussions on camera settings and capabilities such as ISO, exposure, exposure time, focus, and editing software. In working with their cameras, students will explore local habitats, while expanding their understanding of wildlife and various animals behaviors, habits, diets, etc.

Watercolor – Ages 30+

Students will learn an array of Watercolor techniques through painting various subjects in Watercolor. Each painting will be completed in two weeks, including brief demos, instruction by award winning Watercolorist, Carol Z. Brody, and followed by a formal, individual critique.

Dog Obedience Training

Dog Obedience Training – Ages 16+

Train with Barb Forgash, who has 35+ years of dog training experience. Barb will be teaching 2 classes at the Village of Wellington—Puppy Kindergarten (puppies under 6 months of age) blended with Basic Home Obedience (dogs over 6 months), and Intermediate Level classes, designed for dogs who have successfully completed a dog class through the Village of Wellington, or upon teacher recommendation.

ACT Workshops – Ages 16 to 18

The ACT workshops are test prep courses, geared towards helping students learn test strategies for the newly redesigned ACT test. Book and materials provided. Class fee does not included cost of test registration.

Learn with Legos – Ages 4 to 8

Currently not available. Check back in the Summer for program offerings.

Each week students will participate in hands on learning and building activities. Topics include Math, Social Studies, Contraptions and Mechanics, and Science. Class materials are provided.

Kindersports – Ages 4 to 7

This class teaches basic skills with balls and fitness, incorporating soccer, basketball, gymnastics, and T-ball skills that will take your child confidently in to any Recreation Program. Kids will have fun with athletic activities in a safe, structured, non-competitive environment with Miss Muriel.

TumbleTots

Ages 4 months to 36 months

This class stimulates the senses, encourages movement, and aids in the development of motor skills through gymnastics and musical activities, in a structured, safe, and fun-filled environment.

TumbleKids – Ages 3 to 5

Includes basic gymnastic skills, ball/sports skills, rhythmical activities, socialization, and more. Children will gain confidence in their abilities while strengthening and learning new skills.

TumbleKid Kamps

Ages 3 to 6

This is a specialized camp full of BIG FUN for your little ones! Activities include gymnastics, sports, music, arts n’ crafts, and so much more, in a safe, fun-filled environment with Miss Muriel! This program offers a smaller class size, providing the ideal experience for you and your child!

Kids Meditation – Ages 8 to 14

With practice, kids can learn to control their thoughts/feelings to reach a state of calm with relative ease. Meditation is great for helping with anxiousness, frustration, or lack of focus which can benefit any young person.

Meditation Classes – Ages 18+

Join us for a journey through Mindfulness, Mandalas, and Healing Chakras with Jan Krause. Meditation is the practice of concentrated focus upon a sound, object, visualization, the breath, movement or attention to oneself in order to increase awareness of the present moment, reduce stress, promote relaxation, and enhance personal and spiritual growth.

Morning Pilates with Lynn – Ages 16+

Pilates offers all the benefits of strengthening the core while lengthening and toning the entire body. Participants can choose to attend one or two days per week.

Pilates Fusion with Paula – Ages 14+

Pilates Fusion awakens the core, builds power and strength, increases flexibility, and cultivates balance. Diversity makes this class exciting and effective by integrating stability balls, weights/bands and dynamic yoga flow. “Pilates Plus” classes combine Tuesday and Thursday Pilates with Saturday Yogilates classes at a discounted rate!

Power Yoga with Lynn – Ages 16+

Join us in our morning Power Yoga class taught by Lynn Spoor! This class will develop the core, strengthen muscles, and increase balance! And by also incorporating breathwork, you will learn to recognize how your body reacts as you move and breathe. With these exercises, you will leave feeling energized, relaxed and ready to take on the day!

Yoga & Yogilates with Paula – Ages 14+

Get energized while building strength and flexibility! These classes link breath and movement while keeping you present as you move gracefully in and out of poses. “Yoga Plus” combines Paula’s Tuesday and Thursday Yoga classes with Saturday Yogilates classes at a discounted rate!

Zumba – Ages 16+

Latin inspired aerobic dance fitness program. Enjoy an hour of fun and fitness while you burn calories to great music. No dance experience necessary.

Zumba – Ages 12+

Learn and practice dance skills such as belly dancing, hip hop, salsa or the merengue through this Zumba program!

Zumba Gold – Ages 40+

Zumba Gold is designed for active older adults who are looking for a modified Zumba class with lower intensity. This easy to follow class will focus on balance, range of motion and coordination.

Zumba Gold Chair – Ages 40+

Enjoy a Zumba Gold class from your chair! Learn basic Latin rhythms and simple steps that increase strength and flexibility. No previous experience necessary. This class is great for anyone who may lack mobility due to physical limitations, injuries, RA, etc.

Performing Arts | Youth – Adult

Ballet & Tap – Ages 5 to 9

Ballet/Tap is an hour combination class that focuses on the fundamentals of each discipline. Barre work and technique will be taught, as well as leaps and turns. Dancers will learn fun Choreography!

Thursdays, 5:00 pm–6:00 pm

 

Ballet & Tap II – Ages 6 to 9

This class is for those looking to take their skills to the next level! Ballet/Tap II is an hour combination class that focuses on expanding the dancer’s skillset in each of the following discipline: Barre work, leaps, turns, Allegro, Adagio and time steps. Dancers will learn exciting choreography and participate in the “end of the season” recital!

Participants must receive approval from Miss Nichole in order to register for the class. Register in person at the Wellington Community Center

Ballet Technique – Ages 10 to 18

Come study and learn the principles of body movement and form used in ballet. Dancers will focus on light, graceful movements, leaps, turns, barre work, floor exercises, and ballet vocabulary. In doing so, your child will develop balance, control, strength, and flexibility.

Dance Company – Ages 7 to 16

This is a “seasonal” program (Sept—May). Participants are to receive approval from Miss Nichole in order to register and to remain actively registered in at least one non-competitive dance class throughout the season. Dancers will practice Lyrical, Ballet, & Jazz Funk choreography. Participants will be provided opportunities to perform in local events and recital, while preparing for competition.

Dancers must be enrolled in another Dance Class in order to participate in the Dance Company.

Registration is in-person at the Wellington Community Center.

Expressive Dance – Ages 2.5 to 4

Expressive dance is a fun, one hour theme and prop oriented intro to ballet and tap, and is on a creative play beginner level.

Jazz Funk – Ages 5 to 18

Develop balance, control, strength, and flexibility, with current dance moves set to today’s popular music (always age appropriate).

Lyrical / Modern – Ages 10 to 18

This class explores a free, expressive style of dance based in ballet. This lyrical/modern class is the fusion of ballet, jazz and contemporary dance techniques. During class dancers will learn to focus on expression of strong emotion and individual style.

Musical Theatre – Ages 5 to 9

In this class, students will be combining vocal training with acting and dancing as a fun, informative introduction to Musical Theatre. The class will rehearse a musical scene, and perform in the last class of the session!

Tumble & Hip-Hop – Ages 4 to 10

This 6 week class will provide an exciting introduction into hip hop dance and tumbling! Each session will conclude with a performance for friends and family. All music is age appropriate.

Senior Aerobics – Ages 55+

sample of our sweetest crop.

AARP Smart Driving Course – Ages 50+

The Smart Driver course consists of a new, easy-to-follow format that incorporates adult-learning principles, features reader-friendly print types, full-color pages, and videos to supplement course content. Best of all, you may be eligible to get an insurance discount for smart driving! Please check with your insurance regarding discounts. Bring a check made payable to AARP to class ($15 Member / $20 Non-Member) on the day of class. Breaks will be given. Please bring a lunch and water/beverages.
