Wellington Council Appoints Michael J. Napoleone as New Vice Mayor

Post Date:04/11/2019 10:37 AM

Wellington’s Council appointed Councilman Michael J. Napoleone as the Village’s new Vice Mayor at their meeting on April 9, 2019. Mr. Napoleone was elected to the Village Council without opposition in December 2015 for a four-year term commencing on March 22, 2016. He is the first non-sitting council member elected without opposition in the history of Wellington.

Vice Mayor Napoleone is committed to developing a long-range vision of Wellington that includes resident input.

“Wellington is where we decided to raise our family and it’s where I want to be for the next 20 years.  It is important that we recognize that today’s decisions will create the Wellington that our children will inherit,” said Napoleone.

Wellington’s previous Vice Mayor was Councilman Michael Drahos, who was first elected to the Council in March 2016 and appointed Vice Mayor in April 2018.

The Village’s Charter requires the Council to appoint a Vice Mayor every year, for a two-year term. The position customarily goes to the next-senior member of the Council. Mr. Napoleone and Mr. Drahos were tied for that position in 2018 and agreed to share the Vice Mayor term, each serving for one year. Mayor Anne Gerwig and former Vice Mayor, John T. McGovern applauded the compromise.
