What is COVID-19 aka Coronavirus?
This is a virus.
There are many types of Coronaviruses and some can cause illness.
This new type has been called COVID-19

What are the symptoms of Coronavirus?
There are a wide variety of symptoms with this illness
Most commonly are fever, cough, and shortness of breath
Chills, muscle aches, headaches, sore throat, diarrhea, and a new loss of taste or smell have also been reported
Symptoms usually appear 2-14 days after you have been exposed to the virus

Who can get Coronavirus?
Anyone can get the coronavirus
Children have similar symptoms, but MAY have a milder illness
Older people and people with other health conditions (like heart, lung, immune, or diabetes) are at risk for developing serious illness or complications.

How is the virus transmitted?
The virus can be spread through droplets. These droplets are released when a person coughs or sneezes. The Droplets can stay in the air for up to 3 hours.
The virus can live on some hard surfaces for up to 3 days and then introduced into the body by touching of the face.
The virus may be spread through feces as well.

How can the illness be prevented?
Avoid close contact with people who are sick
Cover your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze
Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces often
Avoid touching your face, eyes, nose, or mouth
Stay home when you are sick
Frequently wash your hands with soap and water for 20 seconds

What are the different types of tests?
PCR (polymerase chain reaction) is used to diagnose people who are currently infected with the virus. This is performed by a nasal swab. Results are available in 5-7 days.
This site is performing PCR testing
Antibody or “IgG” testing is used to detect previous infection, not current infections. This test is performed using a standard blood test. Results are available in 3-5 days.
This site is not offering antibody testing. FDA-approved Testing can be performed at Premier Family Health by going to

“Rapid” Tests are used to detect current and prior infections. This test is performed by a finger prick for a blood sample. Results are available within minutes.
This site is not performing rapid testing; available tests have questionable accuracy.

Is this test FDA approved?
No, this is not FDA approved. When there are no FDA approved tests (as may happen for new illness or during emergencies) the FDA makes test available under an Emergency Use Authorization to allow for testing to begin while approvals are obtained.

Which lab is being used for this test?
Access Medical Labs will be used at this site
10.
Is this tested covered by insurance or is there a cost for this test?
There is no charge for this test.
This test is being offered by Palm Beach County, the Village of Wellington, and Premier Family Health

Who should be tested?
People age 12 and up
People who are with or without symptoms
People who have suspected exposure to the Coronavirus
People who have traveled to areas with high infection rates
People who are ill or recently have been ill

Can I come if I am sick?
You can come if you are currently sick.
You must indicate that you are sick when you schedule the appointment.
You must notify a staff member as soon as you arrive that you are currently sick.
You must arrive with and wear a facial covering at all times.

If I have COVID now, can I come to be tested again?
If you have COVID now, you should be isolated for 14 days.
Once you have passed 14 days AND your symptoms have resolved, you can be tested again.
If you have COVID, and still have symptoms, you should not be tested here. Please contact your healthcare provider or Premier Family Health to discuss when and how you should be tested.

If I had COVID and then tested negative, should I test again?
Two negative tests would indicate the infection is over.
If you had one negative test already, you can have a second test now.
Recent CDC guidelines have changed, you should discuss retesting again with your healthcare provider.

What do I need to bring to my appointment?
You must bring a photo identification
You must provide a current address, phone number, and email address
You must arrive wearing a facial covering or mask

What is the schedule for testing?
Testing will be offered Monday-Thursday from 10am to 2 pm

How long will the test take?
The test is very brief, only a couple of minutes.
We expect high volume, be prepared to be on site for up to 45 minutes in order to get through the check in process.
Making an appointment the day before will expedite your testing process.

Is the test painful?
The test is mildly uncomfortable.
You can expect to feel a burning sensation in the nose.
Mild nasal discomfort may persist for a short time after the test.

How long will the test results take?
The results may take 5-7 days

How will I be notified of my results?
You will receive a text or email with your results
If you do not consent to receiving your results by text or email, you must indicate that on the registration questions

What if my test is positive?
You will be notified by a member of Premier Family Health.
You will be asked to make an appointment to discuss your results and to assess your symptoms.
A follow-up testing plan will be determined, and suggestions may be made to test people you have been in contact with.
If you are positive, you must quarantine yourself for 14 days. You should not be around others or in public places, unless it is to receive health care.
Make sure you answer the call from the Florida Health Department. They will need information about who you have been in contact with and where you have been recently. This is for contact tracing and to reduce the spread of COVID-19.

What about immunity?
Not enough is known about Coronavirus Immunity.
We do not know if you can be re-infected with the virus.
Antibody testing helps us better understand the immune response.
