Forecasters are calling for more heavy rain and thunderstorms for our area this weekend as a tropical wave approaches South Florida. Based on the South Florida Water Management District’s predictions, we may have a local maximum of 4” to 6” of rainfall across our area by Sunday.
Based on the projected rain totals, we can expect water levels within the Village to rise. The southern reaches of Wellington may experience flooding of low-lying areas depending on the intensity and duration of the rain. Wellington staff is closely monitoring the forecast and local water levels. Our canals are within acceptable levels and we are pumping as necessary in preparation. Public Works crews have also been working to clear drains and swales as needed.
Flood control is a shared responsibility. We urge residents and Homeowners Associations to do their part to help keep their community drainage systems running smoothly. This includes:
- Learn what agency provides local drainage for their property.
- Keeping neighborhood street grates clear of debris to prevent blockage and ensure proper drainage.
- Turning off your sprinklers and letting rainfall water your lawn.
