NO Waste Collection on November 9th
The Solid Waste Authority of Palm Beach County has suspended waste collection on Wednesday, November 9 in anticipation of Tropical Storm Nicole.
What does this mean to you? If your normal collection day is today, go ahead and leave it on the curb and we will pick it up.
After today, Do NOT place garbage or any bulky garbage or yard clippings at your curb, this could become a projectile during a storm.
- This is NOT the time to trim trees or put out bulk items.
- Do not trim vegetation of any kind.
- Do not take additional materials to the curb, transfer stations or landfill.
- We will let you know when collection resumes.

Wellington Emergency Operations officials are closely monitoring Subtropical Storm Nicole as it makes its way across the Atlantic. It is forecast to continue moving towards Florida over the coming days. The National Weather Service has issued a Hurricane Watch for Palm Beach County. A Hurricane Watch means that hurricane conditions are possible within the watch area. A watch is typically issued 48 hours before the anticipated first occurrence of tropical-storm-force winds, conditions that make outside preparations difficult or dangerous. Meteorologists tell us the main impacts to our area will be periods of heavy rain and gusty winds starting Wednesday, November 9th through Thursday, November 10th.
Preparations Underway
As with any storm, our attention turns to the potential for heavy rainfall and localized flooding. Wellington's storm water management team has been making preparations at pump stations around the Village, clearing debris from our canals, and ensuring they are at their optimal levels in anticipation of heavy rainfall. We're working closely with the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) as they prepare the regional flood protection system to protect communities from flooding and handle possible heavy local rainfall from the tropical disturbance.

Flood control is a shared responsibility. We urge residents and Homeowners Associations to do their part to help keep their community drainage systems running smoothly. This includes:
- Keeping neighborhood street grates clear of debris to prevent blockage and ensure proper drainage
- Turning off your sprinklers and letting rainfall water your lawn
