Wellington’s Geographic Information System (GIS) team has been recognized by the Agency for State Technology with Florida’s Excellence in Technology Award for the Village’s Emergency Operations GIS Portal.
The Portal was built by the GIS team to be a one-stop-shop for critical information during an emergency event. The Portal highlights the following: traffic & hazards, damage assessment (public & private), debris removal, rain gauges, FPL Power Tracker, NOAA National Hurricane Center, NOAA emergency response imagery, weather, and Palm Beach County WebEOC. Deploying the Emergency Operations Portal as part of Wellington’s Maps & Apps page has increased efficiency, communication, and response times. The Emergency Operations applications have also been outstanding in storing data, photos, and XY coordinates in a centralized location for use in the FEMA processing that may continue years after an event.
Florida’s Excellence in Technology awards recognizes state and local government information technology (IT) initiatives and professionals demonstrating excellence and providing value to the State of Florida and its citizens. The recognition process is a collaboration between the Agency for State Technology and e.Republic/Government Technology (GovTech), who hosts the annual Florida Digital Government Summit each May.
