Comprehensive Plan Update
The Comprehensive Plan, the "Plan", is a guide for Wellington's future economic, social, physical, environmental, and fiscal development. The Plan consists of 11 elements or chapters. Each element is organized into goals, objectives, and policies, along with a series of maps, as applicable. The series of goals within each element are supported by objectives and policies. The objectives are intended as specific, measurable, intermediate end that is achievable and marks progress towards a goal. The policies are defined as the way in which programs and activities are conducted to achieve and identified goal. Each goal, objective, and policy is numbered with a "catch line" which are intended as catchwords to indicate the contents of the respective goal, objective, or policy.
Chapter 163, Part II of the Florida Statutes, known as the "Community Planning Act", establishes the requirements and manner in which a comp plan is adopted. This legislation requires that all local jurisdiction adopt and maintain a comp plan and prescribes the subject areas that must be included. The growth management and development-related provisions of the comp plan are implemented by the local land development regulations (LDR) which are required to be consistent with the comp plan. The local government also implements the comp plan through its capital budget and policies, programs, and initiatives designed to achieve the plan.
The Comprehensive Plan was updated in 2021 to be simple, yet direct guide. The Plan forms the blueprint for Wellington’s future with a focus on the next 10 to 20 years. Below is a list of the elements, or “chapters”, of the Comprehensive Plan.
