Before Starting Your Business
Wellington Code of Ordinance, Article III, Local Business Tax Receipt requires that any person who maintains a permanent business location or branch office within the Village pay a local business tax receipt for the privilege of conducting any business, profession, or occupation within the Village's jurisdiction. If you already have a local business tax receipt and are changing the name or location of your business, you are required to submit a new application and include a copy of your current local business tax receipt.
Any person who engages in any business, occupation or profession that is covered by the Local Business Tax Receipts and Business Regulations, who does not pay the required local business tax within 150 days after initial notice of tax due, and who does not obtain the required local business tax receipt is subject to civil actions and penalties, including court costs, reasonable attorney's fees, additional administrative costs incurred as a result of the collection efforts, and a penalty of $250.
Entrepreneurs need to know that a business tax receipt is required before engaging in any business in the Village of Wellington, including home-based businesses and renting a property.
The cost of a Business Tax Receipts varies according to the type of business and must be renewed annually. Call the Business Tax Department at 561-791-4000 for license types, fees, and other pertinent information.
The Village of Wellington's Local Business Tax Receipt is valid from October 1st through September 30th.

Any person who maintains a permanent business location or branch office within the Village of Wellington for engaging in or managing any business and any person who maintains a permanent business location or branch office within the Village of Wellington for engaging in or managing any profession or occupation within its jurisdiction must complete an Application to obtain a business tax receipt (formerly known as an occupational license).
