2023 POSTER CONTEST

ELIGIBILITY: All Wellington Elementary & Middle School students (Grades K-8)

 TOPIC: “Road Safety Art Contest”

Everyone on our Village roads has a responsibility to help keep each other safe.  In July 2022, the Village of Wellington adopted Vision Zero to work towards eliminating all traffic fatalities and injuries, while increasing safety and health for all. Wellington students are invited to enter their artwork representing their thoughts on making the roads a safer place!

DEADLINE:  Friday, February 17, 2023 

GUIDELINES:             

  • Poster shall be drawn on 8 ½” x 11” white paper.  It can be drawn vertically or horizontally.
  • Each poster must portray a road safety idea, slogan, drawing, or both.  Students may use crayons, paint, color pencils, or markers.  No highlighters, photos, or computer graphics are permitted.
  • Please attach to the back of the poster the student name, grade, school name, school address, teacher’s name, and teacher’s email address. 
  • Students must work on posters individually, otherwise posters will be disqualified.
  • Only original work will be accepted (no trade-marked or copyrighted materials).

JUDGING: 

The Public Safety Committee will judge and rate the poster for the message, creativity, and originality (not just artistic ability). Poster Topic examples can include:

  • Wear your seat belt
  • Wear your helmets for bicyclists
  • Don’t Speed
  • Don’t Drive impaired 
  • Know and obey all signs, signals, flaggers, etc.
  • Avoid distractions: eating, texting, radios, etc.
  • Pay attention in work zones
  • Following the rules around school zones during drop off and pick up

PRIZES:

One (1) first place poster winner and one (1) runner-up poster winner will be awarded to the Elementary School Category (grades K-5), AND the Middle School Category (grades 6-8).  First place winners will receive a $100 gift card and runner-up winners will receive a $50 gift card.  The winners will be selected at the meeting of the Public Safety Committee in March 2023.  The winners will be recognized by the Wellington Village Council and a write-up in the Town-Crier newspaper.

 ESSAY SUBJECT FOR ALL STUDENTS:  "Road Safety Art and Essay Contest”

Everyone on our Village roads has a responsibility to help keep each other safe.  In July 2022, the Village of Wellington adopted Vision Zero to work towards eliminating all traffic fatalities and injuries, while increasing safety and health for all. Wellington students are invited to enter their artwork representing their thoughts on making the roads a safer place!  High School Students can choose to submit either a poster -OR-  essay.

DEADLINE:  Friday, February 17, 2023

ESSAY GUIDELINES:

  • 300 words or less.  Essays may be typewritten (12 pt font) or legibly handwritten. Single-spaced.   Citations should be placed in footnotes, endnotes, or bibliographies and are not included in the 300 words.  Essay submissions must include a cover sheet (not included in the 300 word count) with the following:
    1. Title of the Essay
    2. Author’s Name
    3. Name of the School attended
    4. Author’s Grade Level
    5. Date Submitted

The winners will be selected at the meeting of the Public Safety Committee in March 2023.  The winners will be recognized by the Wellington Village Council and a write-up in the Town-Crier newspaper.
