A Message From the Director

My name is Ivy M. Fivey and I’m proud to be the Director of the Parks and Recreation Department. On October 14, 2009, Wellington Parks & Recreation Department received national accreditation from the commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies (CAPRA), becoming one of only eighty-eight agencies in the country and nine cities in the State of Florida currently holding national accreditation. This distinguished accomplishment was announced in Salt Lake City, Utah at the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) 2009 Congress and Exposition.

The process of accreditation is extensive and took several years to accomplish, with agencies required to respond to 155 standards representing various elements of park and recreation efficiency and effectiveness. Applying agencies are required to meet 138 of the 155 standards in order to become accredited. After the initial application, the agency completed a detailed self-assessment report followed by a visit to the Village by a team of experienced park and recreation professionals. Finally, a review was conducted by CAPRA and accreditation was formally conferred by a 13 member commission on October 14, 2009.

Becoming accredited is very important for our department – it shows our residents, participants and other jurisdictions that Wellington Parks and Recreation is professional, valued, and held to a standard of excellence. I’m proud of the department and the Village for achieving this great accomplishment.
