oward Coates, along with his wife Cheri and four children, is a long term Wellington resident and was raised in Palm Beach County. After graduating from Twin Lakes High, Mr. Coates served four years in the United States Marine Corps. Thereafter, he received his A.A. from the University of South Carolina, with highest honors, his B.A. from the University of Florida, phi beta kappa, his J.D. from Yale Law School, and his M.B.A. from Florida Atlantic University. He has practiced law in Palm Beach County for almost twenty-five years.

Mr. Coates has been very active in the community and has served on numerous boards and committees, including serving as President of the South Palm Beach County Bar Association, and on the Boards of the Legal Aid Society of Palm Beach County, and the Boys & Girls Club of Wellington. After being appointed to the Council in 2009, Mr. Coates ran unopposed and was re-elected in March 2010 and is currently serving a four year term.
