Wellington's Green Initative

ellington is a Great Hometown! In order to keep it that way, Wellington is working hard to make sure our community is environmentally sustainable so that tomorrow’s residents can enjoy the same quality of life today’s residents do. The City takes its responsibility to protect our environment while promoting a healthy community and economy very seriously.

Wellington government is doing its part to reduce environmental impacts by implementing "Green" practices in its day-to-day operational activities. Some of the community and governmental initiatives Wellington has implemented include:

· an enhanced recycling program Go Green - Keyboard with a Recycle Logo as the Returen Key

· construction of a LEED certified City Hall

· native landscaping requirements

· electronic document management

· greenhouse gas reduction strategy

· a green procurement policy

· green cleaning policies

· water conservation strategy

· green fleet program

A sustainable Comprehensive Plan to help ensure future development meets the needs of today without sacrificing the ability of future Wellington residents to meet theirs.

Wellington has recently applied to become a certified Florida Green Local Government by the Florida Green Building Coalition. Air Quality Index (AQI)

The Air Quality Index (AQI) is a uniform method of reporting daily air pollution levels along with associated health effects. Air pollution levels are obtained from Palm Beach County Health Department's network of monitors on a daily basis. The AQI is provided 7 days a week, and can be obtained by calling (561) 837-5092 or by visiting the PBCHD website.

Palm Tran Park and Ride - Wellington

With cooperation and support from Wellington and the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), Palm Tran is operating a park and ride facility for commuters in Wellington.

The park and ride lot is ideally situated near the Mall at Wellington Green, providing easy access for commuters to connect to several Palm Tran bus routes, including a newly modified limited-stop express Route 40. Route 40 Eastbound transports commuters from our western communities to downtown West Palm Beach in 35 minutes during select peak travel times. To view route schedules click here.

FPL Business Energy Evaluation

Florida Power and Light (FP&L) Business Energy Evaluation is free and can help your business with a customized, cost-effective plan that is specific to your business needs. FPL offers two types of surveys - the Online Business Energy Evaluation (OBEE) and the On-site Business Energy Evaluation (BEE). The OBEE is geared towards the small business customer.

Tri-Rail Commuter Services

South Florida's commuter rail with convenient train service from Miami to Fort Lauderdale and Palm Beach.

South Florida Commuter Assistance Program

The South Florida Commuter Assistance Program serves as a public information office during the I-95 expansion project, promoting alternatives to driving alone during the construction period. The program is dedicated to improving traffic conditions by promoting alternatives to drive-alone commuting.

Commuter Services hosts a Call Center (1-800-234-RIDE) to answer commuter questions and provide rideshare information.

ENERGY STAR Low Carbon IT Campaign Ally

Wellington is proud to be an ENERGY STAR Low Carbon IT Campaign Ally, part of EPA's ongoing efforts to help residents and businesses not only save energy and money, but join the fight against global warming. The ENERGY STAR Low Carbon IT Campaign is a nationwide effort to assist and recognize organizations for reducing the energy consumed by computers. Recycling at Work - provides businesses information on green purchasing guidelines.
Waste Audit - the SWA is committed to helping businesses recycle by providing free waste audits and technical support.
